CD55 and infection: In other cases, viruses may bind to cell surface molecules that do not themselves promote uncoating: for example, CD55 binds coxsackievirus B3 at the cell surface, but uncoating and infection require interaction with CAR [52]; similarly, many echoviruses bind CD55, but it was recently shown that interaction with the neonatal Fc receptor is essential for uncoating and infection to proceed [53,54].
