From 13 variables, identified as univariate DSWI predictors in a series of Gatti [8], 7 were found significant in our cohort: BMI (kg/m2) > 30, DM on insulin, poor glycaemic control, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), congestive heart failure, multiple blood transfusion (> 2 RBCs) and reexploration for bleeding. The gene discussed is INS; the disease is chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
