Malnutrition is a common problem in CRC patients due to intestinal obstruction and cachexia [43] and has been associated with overexpression of cytokines such as interleukin-6 and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), as well as hormones that induce lack of appetite, and it has direct catabolic effects on skeletal muscle [44,45,46]. The gene discussed is TNF; the disease is colorectal carcinoma.
