After nasal exposure of susceptible end hosts, BoDV1 primarily spreads to the limbic system, and eventually to the entire central nervous system (CNS), resulting in the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines like TNF, interleukin (IL)-1, and IL-2, followed by severe non-purulent meningoencephalitis [4,5,6,7,8]. This evidence concerns the gene TNF and meningoencephalitis.
