BCL2 and B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia: In 2016, the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and European Medicines Agency (EMA) approved the (first) targeted BCL-2 inhibitor, venetoclax (ABT-199, BH3 mimetic), for the treatment of adult patients with CLL (with 17p deletion or TP53 mutation who are unsuitable for or have failed a B-cell receptor pathway inhibitor, or who have failed both chemoimmunotherapy and a B-cell receptor pathway inhibitor).
