It has been pointed out that overweight adipose tissue can release higher levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines, such as tumour necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) and interleukin-6 (IL-6), which mediate the emergence of CRC-inducing factors, such as chronic inflammation in the organism [7, 8], and that some of the insulin-like adipokines interact with insulin-like growth factor receptor, thereby promoting cancer cells [9].
