Although a causal relationship isn't possible to infer with our data, it's of notice that IL‐10 may be related to the pathophysiology of AKI in COVID patients (Pearson correlation coefficient between IL‐10 and the Highest Creatinine, a surrogate of AKI, was 0.508, p‐value < 0.001), a finding that contradicts the findings of another study with an experimental model of ischemia–reperfusion AKI in which IL‐10 showed potential of protective effect (Tang et al., 2020). The gene discussed is IL10; the disease is acute kidney injury.
