Since yeast 14-3-3 proteins regulate carbon metabolism, glucose repression, and surface localization of sugar transporters, global protein homeostasis, they may be involved in metabolic diseases associated with sugar metabolism, including diabetes, age-related diseases, including Alzheimer ́s disease, Parkinson ́s disease and transthyretin amyloidosis as suggested by several studies (Thandavarayan et al., 2008; Watanabe et al., 2008; Wang et al., 2009; Herod et al., 2022) and reviewed in (Kleppe et al., 2011; Knowles et al., 2014; Rial et al., 2023). Here, YWHAQ is linked to early-onset autosomal dominant Alzheimer disease.
