Although increased levels of IL-18, IL-13, and IL-6 have been reported along with accumulation of ILC2s during acute COVID-19, increased circulating ILC2s in moderate but not severe COVID-19 patients were found in other studies [33], consistent with their attrition by interferon (IFN)-γ in type 1 (viral-induced) inflammation [21].
