A number of systemic antioxidant and anti-inflammatory therapies such as beta carotene (an antioxidant), Resolvin-D1 (an anti-inflammatory eicosanoid), enalapril (an ACE inhibitor) with alpha lipoic acid (an antioxidant) were reported to be beneficial in mitigating corneal degeneration in diabetic rats, when administered orally48,53–55. The gene discussed is ACE; the disease is corneal dystrophy.
