Considering death as a competing risk, two of the validated proteins (tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily member 9 [TNFRSF9], and fatty acid-binding protein 4 [FABP4]) were no longer significantly associated with incident CHD in both cohorts in those without T2D (see Supplementary Table 3, Additional file 2). This evidence concerns the gene FABP4 and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
