Given that both mitochondrial and lysosomal dysfunction are hallmarks of senescent cells, particularly senescent DA neurons in PD (Riessland et al., 2019), our findings suggest that the reduction in GCase may contribute to the senescence‐like phenotype of SATB1‐KO DA neurons through its induction of mitochondrial and lysosomal impairment. This evidence concerns the gene SATB1 and Parkinson disease.
