PTGS2 and atopic conjunctivitis: SPM are endogenously formed by lipoxygenases (LOX), cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), and cytochrome P450 monooxygenases (CYP450) and act as potent agonists of active inflammation resolution.96 Consequently, the application of SPM has been effective in a multitude of infectious and inflammatory disease models, summarized in,97 whereas translation into the clinic has thus far been limited, for example, to the use of the resolvin E1 (RvE1) analog RX-10045 in allergic conjunctivitis and ocular inflammation (NCT01639846 and NCT02329743).
