These markers include headcase (hdc), which functions as negative regulator of neurogenesis [50] and is a marker gene for undifferentiated neurons [10, 19]; the tumor suppressor brain tumor (brat) and RNA binding protein Syncrip (Syp) which regulate neuroblast proliferation and differentiation [43, 90]; and ciboulet (cib) and Ten-Eleven Translocation (Tet), which are markers for immature adult neurons [14, 15].
