Although there are many possible mechanisms by which SARS-CoV-2 causes multiorgan damage, including direct cellular invasion via ACE2 and cytokine storms, which in turn impair cardiac, hepatic, and renal function, the hypothesis of this study, the correlation between the mitochondrial impact of COVID-19 and further cardiac, renal, and hepatic impairment, which was tested using machine learning, holds true. The gene discussed is ACE2; the disease is COVID-19.
