The findings of Ploton silver staining, immunohistochemical staining and H&E staining revealed that compared with the control tibiae of non-diabetic mice, there were significant decreases in canalicular density and length and osteocytic OPG protein expression, and significant increases in osteocytic survival rate and RANKL and sclerostin expression in the control tibiae of T2D mice (Fig. 2b–e, Fig. S1). This evidence concerns the gene SOST and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
