HDL-c assumes a protective role in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis (56) by exerting anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative effects and safeguarding vascular endothelial cells through the transport of antioxidant enzymes such as paraoxonase-1 (PON1), lecithin cholesterol acyltransferase (LCAT), and platelet-activating factor acetylhydrolase (PAF-AH). Here, PON1 is linked to atherosclerosis.
