ACE inhibitor use was associated with significantly lower serum DHEA levels in older men.32,33 The role of RAAS activation has already been suggested and elaborated in the pathogenesis of RA by Moeriera et al.34 In summary, evidence of high RAAS in RA patients and deleterious effects of RAAS inhibitors on bone density suggests that hypertension may negate bone loss associated with RA through this mechanism too. This evidence concerns the gene ACE and hypertensive disorder.
