Further studies reported that expression levels of a Glu transporter (EAAT2) and several Gln transporters (SNAT1 and SNAT2 in neurons; SNAT3 and SNAT5 in astrocytes) were decreased in the mPFC in CIS-induced depressive mouse models, demonstrating a disruption of the Glu–Gln cycle by CIS [30].
