Two studies in 2021 corroborated this statement, showing that CD36 expression could be increased in CD8+ tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) in human cancers by the cholesterol that exists in TME, and that such an increase could further increase lipid uptake, accumulation, and peroxidation, leading to CD8+ TIL dysfunction [121,122]. The gene discussed is CD36; the disease is neoplasm.
