While the positive association between placental FATP1 expression and cord lutein levels is consistent with the concurrent increase in fat and fat-soluble nutrients, the dissociation of the two may have reflected the dysregulation of fat and fat-soluble nutrient transport during GDM, which may be a potential contributor to the lower fetal cord blood lutein levels in GDM pregnancies. Here, SLC27A1 is linked to gestational diabetes.
