There is a genetic component to the disease, which accounts for between 10 and 15% of cases, with several individual genes (such as LRRK2, SNCA, PINK1, PARK7 and PRKN) associated with Parkinson’s disease [66] and over 90 gene loci that can increase the risk of developing Parkinson’s disease [67].
