Among the genes, RAS association domain family 1A (RASSF1A) and cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor 2A (p16/CDKN2A) are candidate genes involved in the initiation of NPC [22,64], as inactivation of RASSF1A and p16 may provide a growth advantage for the clonal expansion of EBV-infected premalignant epithelial cells. This evidence concerns the gene RASSF1 and nasopharyngeal carcinoma.
