Considering that irisin reduces the activity of ROS-producing processes (Mazur-Bialy, 2017), downregulating ROS-NLRP3 inflammasome signaling (Deng et al., 2018), and that aerobic exercise-induced irisin partly mediates amelioration of OS and cell apoptosis in mice skeletal muscle (Ren et al., 2022), we suggest that increased circulating irisin during recovery period is a counteracting mechanism to reduce exercise-induced MD and OS. The gene discussed is FNDC5; the disease is Menkes disease.
