In fact, the loss of ATM function was shown to be associated with improved local control after ionizing radiation therapy in multiple cancer types, including glioma and breast and prostate cancer.7, 8, 9 Additionally, some studies have shown that ATM modulates inflammatory and innate immune processes, raising the possibility that somatic ATM mutations could alter normal-tissue toxicity after radiation therapy.10 Here, ATM is linked to prostate carcinoma.
