Even more interestingly a polymorphism in the gene encoding metallothionein 2A (MT2A) is associated with higher plasma levels of IL-6, hyperglycemia, and marked zinc deficiency in patients with the AA genotype than in carriers of the AG allele, suggesting the presence of a specific genetic background that may influence susceptibility to the development of zinc deficiency associated with inflammation (177). This evidence concerns the gene MT2A and Zinc deficiency.
