Numerous studies have shown that activation of the NLRP3 (nod-like receptor family, pyrin domain-containing 3) inflammasome is involved in a variety of inflammatory reactions, such as neuropathic pain, depression, diabetes-associated neuroinflammation, neurodegenerative diseases, cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury, memory, and cognitive dysfunction [13]. This evidence concerns the gene NLRP3 and major depressive disorder.
