Although leptin unquestionably plays important roles in a number of cardiac pathologies such as myocardial ischemia/infarction, in this review, we will restrict our discussion to leptin, the most studied member of the adipokine family, and its effects on the heart, which are likely of particular importance to our understanding of pathological cardiac hypertrophy and remodelling per se. The gene discussed is LEP; the disease is infarction.
