This fraction is responsible for strong anti-inflammatory activity due to its capacity to tackle the production of proinflammatory interleukins and chemokines, IL-6, IL-8, and TNF-α, by the intestinal epithelium in an inflammatory environment, contributing to adjusting the inflammation in IBD by finetuning factors closely involved in the development of the autoreactive immune response. Here, IL6 is linked to inflammatory bowel disease.
