In this study, we demonstrated that HASMC calcification induced by elevated concentrations of Pi, a culture condition that recapitulates the hyperphosphataemia typical of patients with CKD, is associated with the onset of an inflammatory secretory phenotype consisting of the release of IL-6, IL-8, MCP-1, and the calcification inhibitor OPG. The gene discussed is CXCL8; the disease is hyperphosphatemia.
