Rec8 meiotic recombination protein (REC8), a member of the structural maintenance of chromosome (SMC) protein partners, inhibits the degradation of both MAVS and STING by RNF5 after being SUMOylated at K30 and K530 and translocating from nucleus to the cytoplasm, stabilizing these two proteins during viral infection (Figure 2).
