Compared to those belonging to the first three waves (Table 2), patients admitted during the fourth wave were affected more frequently by cancer (p < 0.001), cardiovascular diseases other than hypertension (p < 0.001), diabetes mellitus (p = 0.002) and/or chronic kidney disease [CDK, defined as estimated glomerular filtration rate below 60 mL/min (23), p < 0.001], received hospital therapy with factor Xa/direct thrombin inhibitors or underwent early COVID-19 treatment with short course remdesivir (i.e., for three days) and/or monoclonal antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 (p < 0.001). This evidence concerns the gene F10 and diabetes mellitus.
