In a recent study, Single-cell transcriptomics revealed a set of misregulated RNA targets shared by TDP-43 overexpressing neurons and patient brains with TDP-43 pathology, with the synaptic protein NPTX2 being consistently misaccumulated in ALS and FTD patient neurons providing a direct link between TDP-43 misregulation and NPTX2 accumulation (Hruska-Plochan et al., 2021). This evidence concerns the gene NPTX2 and frontotemporal dementia.
