In a prospective observational study, the levels of protectins, the docosahexaenoic acid (DHA)-derived oxylipins generated through the lipoxygenase (LOX) pathway, increased significantly during ischemia (before peak troponin T levels) in STEMI patients (n = 15) compared with patients presenting with stable coronary artery disease (CAD) (n = 10) and healthy controls (n = 10) [24].
