IL-6 is generally considered to be a profibrotic molecule; an experimental study with the bleomycin model of pulmonary fibrosis suggested that the inhibition of IL-6 in the early phase of lung injury promoted fibrosis and that inhibition in the later stages of injury at the onset of the fibrotic phase could ameliorate fibrosis [80,81,82,83]. The gene discussed is IL6; the disease is pulmonary fibrosis.
