We postulate that triterpene glycosides suppress the function of tumor cells by their ability to induce caspase-dependent or -independent apoptosis, arrest the cell cycle in certain phases, and control the expression of the nuclear factor NF-κB, as well as regulate the expression of cellular receptors and enzymes involved in carcinogenesis, such as EGFR, Akt, ERK, FAK, MMP-9, and some others [5]. The gene discussed is MMP9; the disease is neoplasm.
