In human pulmonary artery smooth muscle cells, prostate cancer cells, and colorectal cancer cells, KLF5 was found to serve as a protector against apoptosis, which induces antiapoptotic genes, including BCL2, baculoviral IAP repeat containing 5 (BIRC5) and repress pro-apoptotic genes like BCL2 associated X (BAX) [170,171,172]. Here, BIRC5 is linked to prostate cancer.
