High fructose intake is associated with increased protein nitration of intestinal tight junction proteins, due to elevated oxidative stress, which results in increased gut leakiness, endotoxemia and steatohepatitis with liver fibrosis, that was partially dependent upon Cytochrome P450 Family 2 Subfamily E Member 1 (CYP2E1) [66]. This evidence concerns the gene CYP2E1 and Hepatic fibrosis.
