The process of NAFLD involves two key stages: 1) Excessive accumulation of triglycerides (TG) within hepatocytes; 2) An increase in pro-inflammatory adipokines and cytokines, including tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α and interleukin (IL)-6, accompanied by mitochondrial dysfunction and oxidative stress [4]. Here, TNF is linked to metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
