Studies have reported that inflammatory immune response is involved in the occurrence and development of ischemic stroke, which is closely related to the severity and prognosis of stroke. In a PREDICT study, stroke-induced immunosuppression was an independent predictor of stroke-associated pneumonia, with up to 10% of those patients in the highest serum interleukin-6 (IL-6) quartile developing SAP and none in the lowest quartile developing SAP [11].Therefore, it is urgent for us to find the accurate and simple way to predict the SAP in patients with AIS. This evidence concerns the gene IL6 and ischemic stroke.
