By contrast, Nlgn4-mutant animals34 did not exhibit detectable tactile or anxiety-like behavioral alterations (Extended Data Fig. 1f–i), and prior studies observed intact social behaviors in these mutant animals35, which may be consistent with significant evolutionary divergence of Nlgn4 in the mouse genome from other mammalian NLGN4 genes36,37.
