Figure 5A shows a 3.7kb deletion on chromosome 8. The deletion was called from two samples, including 7052 Cancer (tongue squamous cell carcinoma) and 10974 (hepatocellular carcinoma). In both samples, there is a clear bimodal distribution of distances between the two anchoring labels, although the fraction of molecules supporting the deletion is lower in 7052 Cancer (56/114=49%) than 10974 (66/87=76%) (Figure 5A). The deletion-enclosing region overlaps the gene CSMD1, which is a tumor suppressor gene in breast cancer [27] and esophageal squamous cell carcinoma [28]. The gene discussed is CSMD1; the disease is hepatocellular carcinoma.
