Prolonged hypoglycemia can result from(a) failure to generate an appropriate glucagon and other counterregulatory hormoneresponse, which is mainly applicable in T1D but can also occur in long-standing T2D; (b)failure of insulin to dissipate; and (c) failure to recognize the precipitating factorsresponsible for the episode and take corrective action to prevent recurrence. This evidence concerns the gene INS and type 1 diabetes mellitus.
