The partial or total loss of this cytokine, as in the IL‐10 knockout (KO) mouse, models inflammaging and is associated with spontaneous enterocolitis (Kühn et al., 1993), osteopenia and increased bone fragility (Dresner‐Pollak et al., 2004), and cardiac events including thrombosis, (Caligiuri et al., 2003), atherosclerosis (Mallat et al., 1999), arterial stiffness and cardiac dysfunction (Sikka et al., 2013). This evidence concerns the gene IL10 and enterocolitis.
