Endothelial NOS (eNOS) is an important enzyme for the production of nitric oxide (NO), and eNOS levels were significantly decreased in APE model rats, accompanied by a significant decrease in the expression of sirtuin-2 (SIRT2) and an increase in the expression of nuclear factor κB (NF-κB), a redox-sensitive nuclear transcription factor, which is highly associated with ROS generation and controls the expression of antioxidant genes in the vasculature. The gene discussed is NFKB1; the disease is apparent mineralocorticoid excess.
