In mouse adipocytes, it was shown that TET1 coordinates with histone deacetylase 1 (HDAC1) to epigenetically suppress thermogenic gene transcription and that adipocyte-specific Tet1 knockout in mice increases energy expenditure and protects against diet-induced obesity and insulin resistance [27]. The gene discussed is HDAC1; the disease is obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
