This TET3-mediated post-translational regulation of PGC-1α in muscle insulin sensitivity is further supported by our observation that in skeletal muscles of humans with type 2 diabetes and mouse models of type 2 diabetes, there is an increase in TET3 expression and a decrease in PGC-1α protein as compared with non-diabetic controls. The gene discussed is PPARGC1A; the disease is type 2 diabetes mellitus.
