In a randomized controlled trial (RCT) of 59 post-menopausal women from Iran with type 2 diabetes, low-fat, vitamin D fortified yogurt (2,000 IU per 100 g) supplementation for 12 weeks significantly decreased parathyroid hormone (PTH) and bone resorption marker N-terminal type-1 collagen (NTX), compared to a non-fortified yogurt group [60]. The gene discussed is PTH; the disease is type 2 diabetes mellitus.
