ATP8B1 and infection: Consistent with this, when we directly addressed the scaffolding activity of the truncated allele by expressing it in trans during ICP1 infection and assessing plaque formation, we found that unlike ptcaPPLE1, which inhibited ICP1 plaquing (Figure 1E), ptcaPPLE5 did not inhibit ICP1 plaque formation (Figure 5E), supporting the conclusion that TcaPPLE5 is not a functional scaffold.
