In a prospective observational study of 57 COVID-19 patients admitted to the ICU, Luther et al. evaluated urinary albumin and NGAL (neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin), KIM-1 (kidney injury molecule-1) and TIMP-2 (tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinases-2) from serum, on admission; the increased levels predicted AKI in the majority (89%) of patients. Here, LCN2 is linked to acute kidney injury.
