Two new subtypes were defined: the WNT-dependent subtype (CRPC-WNT), which featured alterations in the WNT pathway genes, such as CTNNB1 (also referred to as beta-catenin), and the stem cell-like subtype (CRPC-SCL), defined by the enrichment of mammary stem cell signature genes and the high expression of the cancer stem cell markers CD44 and TACSTD2. This evidence concerns the gene CTNNB1 and cancer.
